Doug Van Dyke

Doug Van Dyke is a lead client service tax partner in the Los Angeles tax practice with Deloitte Tax LLP. Doug offers more than 20+ years of experience in U.S. and international taxation to the firm’s clients, including large multinational clients in the media and entertainment and consumer business industries.

Doug’s areas of expertise include tax planning strategies; corporate and international tax strategies relating to large multinational operations, including restructuring; mergers and acquisition planning; international and repatriation strategies; accounting for income taxes (ASC 740); and consolidated return regulations (Net Operation Losses, inter-company transactions, 382 regulations).

Doug has worked closely with media companies as they have expanded globally exploiting their intellectual property, dealing with the U.S. and local jurisdiction tax issues including transfer pricing. In addition, Doug has consulted on matters around international expansion, film amortization, accounting methods, research and development credits and the Section 199 manufacturer’s deduction for media companies.

Doug is the West Region’s media and entertainment leader for tax. He leads the firm’s Interactive Gaming Affinity Group on a national basis. Doug has held numerous leadership roles in addition to those in client service. He has led the firm’s sense of partnership committee in the Los Angeles office and as part of the West Region. He has participated in leadership councils as part of the firm’s overall executive leadership team. Doug currently is one of the tax leaders on a cross-functional team working closely with the firm’s market development organization. Doug frequently participates in local office and national trainings as a speaker or facilitator. In addition, he frequently speaks on the subject matter of Deloitte’s media democracy.

 

J.D. Tengberg

Mr. Tengberg is a Principal in Deloitte Financial Advisory Services’ with expertise in the media and entertainment industries. Over the past 19 years, Mr. Tengberg has performed valuation and financial advisory work for a myriad of different purposes including: transaction and investment-related issues, shareholder value and strategic analyses, tax-related issues, financing, bankruptcy, litigation, business plan development and financial reporting.

Mr. Tengberg has valued entire companies in many industries including: film production and distribution, television production and distribution, post-production, television and radio broadcasting, broadcast and cable networks, entertainment-related Internet companies, interactive gaming, concert promotion and venue management and motion picture exhibition. He has also valued and analyzed different types of entertainment assets including: film libraries, future film slates, FCC licenses, television and radio stations, artists relationships, television production and distribution rights, theatrical (“Off-Broadway”) production rights, merchandising rights, music catalogues, video games, game engines, screenplays.

In addition to Mr. Tengberg’s television distribution project experience, he has spoken on “Trends in Film Finance,” “Future of Digital Media,” and “The Future of Distressed M&A in the Media & Entertainment Industries,” at the International Film and Television Finance Summit and Film Finance Forum.
